Tandem Pet Pty Ltd was founded by entrepreneur Tarik Mallett, who had already built and scaled a successful tech company across New Zealand, Australia, and Canada. While that venture became a large corporate operation, he discovered his real passion lay in building businesses from the ground up, creating something meaningful during the early, most challenging stages.
The inspiration for Tandem came from Tarik’s four miniature dachshunds: Chuck, Darcy, Edison, and Fiadh. Both Chuck and Darcy suffered from Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD), requiring multiple surgeries. This led him to search for effective nutritional supplements. He quickly realised that many products on the market offered strong marketing promises but lacked meaningful active ingredients. Determined to fill that gap, Tarik established Tandem, a company dedicated to creating science-backed, premium supplements for dogs and cats. Developed in partnership with Massey University’s School of Animal Sciences and proudly made in New Zealand, Tandem was built on the principle of delivering genuine, research-driven nutrition to improve the wellbeing of pets.

To expand his vision, Tarik established Tandem Pet Pty Ltd in Australia as an import business, enabling Tandem to bring its products directly into the Australian market.
Objective
From the outset, Tarik identified New Zealand and Australia as Tandem’s core markets. Their geographic proximity, strong animal industries, particularly in dairy, and ease of access to materials made cross-border expansion a natural priority.
