Australia has retained its AAA credit rating from all three major credit rating agencies, cementing its position as a secure destination for international businesses and investors.
S&P Global reaffirmed Australia’s top-tier rating, highlighting the nation’s robust fiscal performance, stable economic outlook, and strong political and institutional framework. Only nine countries worldwide hold AAA status from all three agencies (e.g. S&P Global, Moody’s and Fitch), underscoring Australia’s financial resilience.
The rating signals certainty for international businesses seeking to establish operations or invest in Australia. With consistent GDP growth averaging 2.1% annually from 2019 to 2024, faster than the advanced economy average of 1.7%, Australia continues to outperform its peers. The International Monetary Fund also projects that Australia will grow at 2.2 per cent annually through 2030, outpacing the 1.6% average for advanced economies.
Austrade’s General Manager of Investment, Peter Horn, said Australia’s AAA rating represents more than a strong track record. It reassures international investors that capital is protected and risks are managed, even in uncertain global markets.
Australia reinforces that confidence through its extensive trade network. The country maintains 19 bilateral and multilateral trade agreements with major economies, including the United States, China, Japan, India, and the United Arab Emirates. The UAE agreement expands cooperation in green energy, AI, agriculture, minerals, and infrastructure.
Stable institutions, transparent regulation, and consistent policymaking further strengthen Australia’s investment proposition by providing a predictable environment for long-term capital. As Mr Horn said, “In an uncertain global environment, very few markets can offer both strong growth potential and sovereign stability.”
For multinational corporations, global pension funds, and sovereign wealth investors, Australia’s triple-A status offers both security and opportunity, reinforcing the nation’s role as a reliable gateway for international capital.
